SPONTANEOUS RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT OBAMA’S SPEECH AT CAIRO UNIVERSITY, TODAY, JUNE 4, 2009 (With Wishes to Reach to the US President)
Comment on Mutual Respect among Religion
It is not difficult to be tolerance to others who have difference religion in terms of spiritual believe and ritual ceremony. However, it becomes crucial when it comes to social-political dimension of life, e.g. economic, cultural, and political policies. Moslem must follow the Islamic way of life in such a dimension. Moslems believe that Islamic policies on economic, political, cultural, etc will bring the nation and the world in prosperous and harmony. Islamic teachings on social-political aspects mostly differ diametrically compared to Western values. What will be the opinion of the President to solve such a problem? Should Moslems still have to live under the social-political way what Western belief?
Comment on Violence by extremist/terrorist.
We all are by nature against violence, particularly killing the innocence civilian. The terrorists, irrespective to the religion they believe, must be controlled, if necessary by force. The problem is then often laid upon the operational definition and the historical roots of the terrorism. In my recent book entitled “New Paradigm of National Development, Islamic View to Make a Better World” I put a separate chapter discussing terrorism. We will be successful to stop terrorism and the terrorists if the causal factors can be eliminated. One of the possible causal factors of terrorism against US might be the government policy received as humiliating by a society in particular region. The new Government of US lead by President Obama is supposed to find the alternative solution other than suppression by military power.
Comment on Nuclear Weapon
The President also stated that the ideal condition related to nuclear weapon is no nations at all in the world with nuclear weapon. It was certainly an optimistic view as how to materialize such an idea looks impossible. Anyhow, I may have a practical proposal, particularly in relation to Middle East Peace Making process. Would it be possible to ‘denuclearize’ Israel to make a small region, i.e. Middle East without nuclear weapon. If it would be so then the idea to have a world without nuclear weapon looks more prospective.
Comment on Democracy
The President was very clear to describe that ‘democracy’ is not everything that every nation must follow. The important thing is to have a nation with good-transparent government, not steal the people, stability, following rules-regulation, and no suppression in the process of leadership. Every nation may have her own historical and cultural background that may differ from the US. This opinion on democracy is certainly very valuable and must be heard by those in Moslem countries who often cry excessively of democracy.
